In 1968 The Blues rose in popularity with New Zealand's University Students. By 1969 there were 4 top Blues Acts, Rick Bryant, Gutbucket, The Supernatural Blues Band and The Underdogs.
Gtbuck backed Rick Bryant for his original song "Wild About You" which was voted by NZ Blues Clubs as the best Blues Song of the Year. Laurence Cooper was the Slide guitarist on that track and his tight guitar work dominate this song too.
The Gutbucket Line-Up was: Bernard Schmidt (lead guitar), Laurence Cooper (2nd guitar / bottleneck), Steve Hemmens (bass) and Mike Fullerton (drums). Laurence Cooper went on to be a part of "Tapestry" and now has a solo career with two titles at iTunes, issued by his original Label, Tree, and distributed by The Orchard as a digital product. Hard copies can be bought at CD Baby/treerecords.
